In a small University town in the UK in the early 2010s, before Repeal the 8th, Queer Eye and same- sex marriage, Teenage Dream is playing on full volume, vodka cranberry is flowing, and a young Irish Catholic woman is questioning her sexuality. At University she has met Sophie, the first lesbian she’s ever known in real life (that she’s aware of), who makes her stomach churn and her palms sweat. Her Church, her Auntie Deirdre, and the Bible say that “Man and Woman were made for each other”, but she recently hooked up with a guy after clubbing, and found it, well, repulsive. Sacrament is powerful, funny and thought-provoking, and asks whether it’s possible to reconcile religion and sexuality.

Sacrament transfers to London after a critically acclaimed run at the Theatre Upstairs, Dublin. Supported by Dublin Fringe Lab.
